Cargo Checking and Tally Services

Independent cargo checking and tally for loading and discharge at Batangas and other Philippine ports. Accurate counts and clear records for every party.

Tally is the independent count and record of cargo as it moves between ship and shore. V. Faytaren Shipping Agency provides checking and tally at Batangas and other Philippine ports, so owners, charterers and receivers all work from the same accurate numbers.

What our checking and tally service covers

Cargo disputes usually start with a number nobody can prove. The bill of lading says one thing, the receiver counted another, and the vessel has already sailed. A proper tally, kept by checkers who are on the quay and on deck for every shift, prevents most of those arguments before they begin.

Our checkers record each sling, bag, piece or unit as it is loaded or discharged, along with the hatch, the time and the condition of the cargo. Damaged or missing items are noted on the spot, so they can be raised with the vessel and the stevedores while everyone is still there to see them.

This matters most for bagged goods, steel, general cargo and project pieces, where a count is the main proof of what was delivered. Over the years we have handled cargo ranging from bagged sugar and hot-rolled steel plates to live cattle and a 500-ton power generator, and the same discipline applies to each.

What we handle

  • Piece, bag and unit counts during loading and discharge
  • Hatch-by-hatch and shift-by-shift tally sheets
  • Notes on damaged, wet or short-landed cargo
  • Daily summaries for owners, charterers and receivers
  • Final outturn reports at the end of operations
  • Coordination with stevedores and the terminal
  • Support documents for cargo claims
  • Bagged cargo, steel, general cargo and project cargo

How it works

  1. Scope

Tell us the cargo, quantity, documents and who should receive the reports.

  2. Checkers assigned

We place checkers on the quay and on deck to cover every working shift.

  3. Daily records

You receive running totals and exception notes while the work is under way.

  4. Outturn report

At completion we issue the final tally and a summary of any damage or shortages.

Frequently asked questions

Why use an independent tally instead of the stevedores' count?

An independent tally gives every party one neutral record. It is much harder to dispute a count kept by checkers who were present for every shift and noted problems as they happened.

What kind of cargo do you tally?

Mostly bagged goods, steel products, general cargo and project pieces, where counts and condition matter most. Tell us the cargo and we will confirm how we would cover it.

Do you report damaged cargo?

Yes. Damage, wet bags and shortages are recorded at the time, with the hatch and time noted, and included in the daily summaries and final report.

Can tally be combined with your port agency service?

Yes. Many principals appoint us as port agent and for tally at the same time, which keeps the reporting in one place.
